• The goals of the R & D Group for Resource Plants include, but are not limited to, botanical surveys, taxonomic identification, conservation of biodiversity, horticulture, endosymbiosis and biological, chemical, metabolic and pharmacological characterization of medicinal, edible, ornamental and other economic plants through the collection, domestication and breeding of wild relatives, crop quality and safety assessments, screening and evaluation of extracts to identify bio-active components for innovative drug discovery and pharmaceutical, cosmetic and pesticidal utilization. The groups of major focus include medicinal plants, Abrus, Bougainvillea, Cyanobacteria, Cycadales, Dendrobium, Lagerstroemia, Menispermaceae, Rubiaceae, Saxifragaceae, Solanaceae, Styracaceae and Viburnum.
