Hoya
The genus Hoya belongs to the family Apocynaceae and includes more than 300 species. It is native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Oceania and the Pacific islands. Most species of Hoya are epiphytic herbaceous climbers and their soft stems twine around trees, rocks or climb on a substrate with adventitious roots. Flower structures of Hoya are among the most complicated and delicate among flowers of angiosperms. In addition, their actinomorphic corolla has various shapes and colors. The staminal corona consists of five erect lobes that are usually large and distinct. Leaves, inflorescences and flowers are also quite variable in shape and are beautiful. These features make them excellent ornamental plants. To date, 220 species and cultivated taxa from southwest China, southwest Asia and southern Asia have been introduced to the Garden. Nursery venues are the shady greenhouse of the Conservation Center and the Shade Garden.
