  • Nature School
    Fairy Lake Nature School, established in December 2014, is one of the first nature schools in Shenzhen. Based on the textbook written by Garden staff to help train volunteers as environmental teachers, the nature school provides environment and education courses to children and the general public. By making an appointment in advance, 20-25 children between 7 and 12 years old can take part in the courses in the company of their parents twice a month.
  • Currently, our nature school supplies four courses:

    1) Green factory-leaves. The goal of this course is to inspire students to understand the morphology and function of leaves, and to enhance their ability for exploring and observing nature;

    2) Exploration of shade-tolerant plants, succulents, cycads and palms which are carried out in the Shade Garden, Cacti and Succulent Garden, Cycad Conservation Center and Palm Collection, respectively. Here children learn the definition of shade-loving plants, succulents, cycads, palms and their survival strategies;

    3) Butterflies. This course teaches basic knowledge of butterflies, including the diversity and ecological importance of butterflies, how to distinguish between butterflies and moths, and how to recognize local butterflies.
To date, four textbooks for the nature school have been published by Garden staff, including Bryophytes—the higher plants you do not know, Cycads—magic fossil plants, Butterflies—nature dancers, as well as Gesneriads—the pearl from the mountains.
