Rare plants of southern China
The research and conservation of rare and endangered plants have always been the focus of attention of countries around the world, because it can well reflect the regional characteristics and research level of plants in a country. There are about 1,900 species identified in the newly revised "List of National Key Protected Wild Plants", "China's Red List of Species", and "China's List of Rare and Endangered Plants", including 230 species in southern China. SZBG is making relentless efforts in collecting and conserving such plants, and is currently conserving about 100 species, such as, Michelia odora, Alsophila spinulosa, Cibotium barometz, Semiliquidambar cathayensis, Excentrodendron tonkinense, Nageia fleuryi, Parakmeria lotungensis, Camellia azalea, Cinnamomum micranthum, Tigridiopalma magnifica, Antiaris toxicaria, Cycas panzhihuaensis, etc. The major conservation site is the Rare Tree Arboretum which is in the east of Rose Garden (Heavenly Pond) and southeast of Cycad Garden.
