Begonia
The genus Begoniais the one of the largest genera of angiosperms, with about 2,000 species mainly distributed in the tropics. Begonias are excellent ornamental plants from the perspective of foliage, flowers, fruits and leaf shapes. Begonias have a long history of cultivation, with thousands of cultivated varieties, and it is one of the world's five major flower bedding plants. The Garden is one of the
main Begonia conservation centers in China, conserving more than 270 native species, and more than 150 cultivated taxa. The main nurseries for begonias are the shady greenhouses of the Conservation Center and the Shade Garden.
