Carnivorous plants
Carnivorous plants are unusual group of flowering plants with more than 700 species in 21 genera and 10 families worldwide. Common plants include pitcher plants, purple pitcher plant, shield sundew and flycatcher. As the "killers" in the plant kingdom, they can use various types of delicate "traps" to catch insects to supplement nutrients, the midribs of the pitcher plant leaves extend into cages and grow bottle-shaped insect traps that secrete honey and digestive juices; the leaves of the insect traps are as beautiful as a flower that is always in bloom. Leaves of other carnivorous plants like sundews are covered with glands that secrete a sticky substance. SZBG has cultivated approximately 200 taxa (including varieties). The main nurseries are the Conservation Center and the Shade Garden.
