XIX International Botanical Congress
International Botanical Congress is the largest and the most highly attended congress on plant sciences in the world. The XIX International Botanical Congress was held successfully in Shenzhen, China from 23 to 29 July 2017 and was organized collaboratively by Botanical Society of China and Shenzhen Municipal People's Government. This is the first time that International Botanical Congress was held in China and in a developing country. It opened a new historical era of the Congress. The Garden was one of the key institutions for organizing the Congress, and so many staff joined various groups relevant to the Congress. The Congress provided a great opportunity for the garden to be better known among botanists all over the world. The International Botanical Congress has left a strong mark in the history of SZBG.
The theme of the Congress was Green Makes Future. About 7,000 botanists from all over the world attended the Congress for an intense week of scientific sessions and satellite meetings. The Congress provided wonderful opportunities for all the participants to exchange ideas, establish collaborations and make new friends. In addition, the Nomenclature Section of the International Botanical Congress was held one week prior to the main Congress (17-21 July 2017), the new edition of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Shenzhen Code) was approved which effective immediately upon acceptance of the resolution at the closing plenary session, and it will be effective till the next edition of the Code approved by the XX International Botanical Congress which will be held in Brazil in 2023. The Chinese version of the Shenzhen Code will be available by the Spring of 2021.
