Huigui Woods
Huigui Woods was built in March 1997 to commemorate the reunification of Hong Kong with the mainland. Young people from Shenzhen and Hong Kong planted 1,997 incense trees (Aquilaria sinensis) in these woods. The outline of Huigui Woods depicts a map of China, which symbolizes the unification of the country. As a traditional Chinese medicinal herb and aromatic plant, incense tree is mainly distributed in southern China, especially in the Pearl River Delta. The resin from wounded old stems, called by the Chinese name of Chenxiang, is used as raw material for spices, and is also good for stomach illnesses.
