Director Yang Yibiao of Fairy Lake Botanical Garden participated in the BGCI International Advisory Council Meeting

  On July 19, 2021, Mr. Yang Yibiao, Director of Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, participated in the 2021 annual online meeting of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) as a member of its International Advisory Council (IAC).
The conference focused on the criteria, methodology and implementation steps of the International Biodiversity Certification (IBC). The IBCwas developed by the BGCI and is intended to be used in the assessment of afforestation, reforestation and ecological restoration projects.BGCI mentioned that the botanical gardenhas the most accurate and up to date scientific data on tree diversity, and its network of botanical/horticultural experts is second to none, and therefore it isauthoritative and operational for the botanical gardens to assess the IBCfocusing on plants (trees). Vegetation has a huge carbon sink capacity, and promoting IBCglobally will provide important reference data for achieving carbon neutrality and carbon emission peak. Finally, all participants voted online on whether to support the BGCI in developing anIBCscheme.
Since becoming a patron member of the BGCI in 2015, Fairy Lake Botanical Garden has maintained ties with botanical gardens and institutions worldwide, actively sharing and discussing new technologies and ideas inconstruction of botanical gardens, organizing international flower shows, conducting species conservation, research and science education, and contributing to the expansion of the international influence and visibility of the botanical gardens.
BGCI has more than 30 patron members around the world of which 7 botanical gardens fromChina, including Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, Beijing Botanical GardenShanghai Botanical Garden, and Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, etc.
